| XXL columnist Byron "Bol" Crawford" talkin' down on the H... Houston Hates real Hip Hop http://www.xxlmag.com/online/?p=12879 My reply: Houston Hates Bol. Monday, August 13, 2007 Bol, you suck ass. Now that I've gotten that out of the way, let's go back to this douche bag's initial rant. You see, this destined-to-be 40 year old virgin had the nerve to talk sh*t about the city that I call home. Yeah, that's right, this ol' Tay Zonday wannabe reject ass n**ga has the nerve to say that Houston hates real Hip Hop. Now anyone who's been paying attention to my corner of the internet would know how disappointed I was/am that last Wednesday's show got cancelled; but to have some f**k boy talk down on Houston is down right insulting. First of all, get the venue right dumbass. The Smirnoff Music Center is in Dallas; the concert was scheduled to occur at the Reliant Arena. Ya ass. Second of all, eat a dick, Bol. Third of all, the people promoting did a terrible job of planning and executing the event which led to the cancellation. A tour of this magnitiude and in a city the size of Houston should have never had a stop scheduled for a Wednesday evening, which is the middle of the work week. However, even then the promoters didn't utilize the most popular resources in the city for getting the word out on events. Again, as a resident of Houston, I can attest that the most popular methods of blasting event information were not utilized. I'm talking about inDmix.com. I'm talkin' about Urbanthang.com. I'm talkin' about alltheparties.com. I'm talkin' about 713vip.com. In their defense, they did use the biggest "hip hop" radio station in Houston but truth be told the artists on the tour don't reflect the artists that are on the radio so that pretty much cancelled itself out. If I'm checkin' for Wu-Tang, I am not going to be tuning in to 97.9 the Box. Peep their play list. Shout out to program directors. And yes, I know that the DJs at the station have a job to do. But damn. Knowing that heads who check for the Wu won't be tuning in to The Box on the regular, it probably would have been a good idea to have a few more acts that would appeal to the Houston audience. Guerilla Union was also up to some false advertisement, since they kept saying that David Banner and UGK were going to appear in Houston when in fact they had dropped off the bill weeks in advance. And, let's compare apples to apples - New York got Wu, Rage Against The Machine, Public Enemy, Rakim, Mos Def and Talib Kweli, Cypress Hill, Pharaohe Monch, The Roots...hell, do I need to go on? We were "scheduled" to get Wu, Nas, Pharaohe Monch, Immortal Technique, David Banner, and UGK. Not to say that the show we were supposed to get wasn't going to be off the chain, but c'mon! Who would you rather un-ass 45-100+ dollars to go see? Yeah. And for the record, I did drop 125.00 for a ticket to see Wu, etc. come to Houston. And remember, David Banner and UGK were not even going to be there. I did not want to get my money back. I wanted to see a gotdamn show. Oh yeah, the show in NY and most of the other tour stops are/were scheduled on the weekend. The sh*t does not compare. On the outside looking in, this was a setback for the perception of hip hop in Houston. But don't get it twisted, hip hop is indeed alive in the H-Town. Come down to the H and see for yourself. b*t*h. | |||

.... i hate wu tang.... LOL! naw... i think that you and that dude have good points. i mean it is stupid to generalize all of houston.... but "in general", people in the houston/south don't have a good grasp on east coast music. (cue everybody and their mama jumpin in here to say how deep they are into east coast music! LOL!). i mean E, like you said, radio and even the club scene is saturated with down south music. and there is nothing wrong with that. the problem i have with this dude, and people like him, is his assumption that southern music isn't real hiphop. like he is an authority on what music is... its all the same to me. dude's talking in a rythmic type fashion over beats... here's a question for you E, how do you decipher hiphop from un-hiphop? I was thinking the same thing Burb..... Where were they getting that the concert started at 3?...........I didn't know that either..... | |||

| burb warehouse live is a nice venue but its still small compared to the stadiums sold out over the nation. And people still aren't gonna be heald up in warehouse live for 6 hours on a wednesday. Blame the promoters, but wasn't Houston an added date? It all seemed kinda half-assed to me. Just to say Houston can only have a show of this level is kinda weak burb. There is always next year | |||

| Regardless of the fact that tour might have been last minute or watered down, regardless of the fact that it was scheduled to be at the Reliant Arena, regardless of the fact that it was scheduled for a freakin' Wednesday... what's up with 3pm??? Honestly speaking, the demographic who even remembers the hey dey of Wu-Tang, UGK, Nas and 'nem more than not ain't gonna be able to smoove skate out at 3 o'clock on a weekday, make that 2 unless you plan on wearing the work clothes to a rap concert... We some ol' yuppie a$$ niccas and this ain't the dam Scream tour. Unlike Neyo, Bow Wow, and Omarion's omnipresent sea of screaming wanna-be ball massagers, we've lived far past the days of Summer Vacation, so why the hell would a "promoter" schedule a concert a full two to three hours before the folk most likely to wanna see the show are even able to see the show. I don't know about y'all but I'd look crazy a$$ hell usin' my PTO to get off three hours early to go watch a concert. Edited by King Kobra 2007-08-14 6:41 PM | |||
