I have been reflecting over my time in the nightclub game. In 2002 I started Urbanthang.com, aspiring to be the next Yahoo. A poor man's FACEBOOK before FACEBOOK, I aspired to take my nerd skills (lol!) and change the landscape. Along the way, I have had some tremendous successes, some failures, flame-outs (my rants on the watercooler)....but it is really time for me to "move around".
Real talk I never quite fit (in the industry) as a "promoter".
Some thought I was "ghetto"......I was Vice President of Technology for Internet Luxury Retailer (www.ashford.com)..created and manage a website that sold 65 million dollars online from scratch....I created the first online computer configurator for Compaq in 98 (after starting in Manufacturing like every other broke college student)..I have been engaged with folks that help shaped fashion and entertainment around the world. Most times when I speak on the my "other life" folks think I am either lying or embellishing...neither is the case....

Some thought I was "square"....because of my ability to make this web stuff fly and use this to attract folks back into the club life. I will never get credit from the naysayers and haters...for shaping the internet game in Houston. With all due respect to IKEM, Clay, Umeme, JP etc....INDMIX started taking pictures at my events ( http://www.indmix.com/pictures/05/dec/120305.html )....Yet everything that I have done that worked....folks have either copied, borrowed or fcuk it..just straight up stolen........how many texts do you get on your phone now from all kinds of promoters...(since I came out with http://www.dc2c.net )..lol.....so it is what it is...
Ask around....I was in Carringthon's deep (94-98)....buyin all my people drinks ($700 bar tab when they were $1 ya dig)......where do folks think I got the idea for Max's Happy Hour...lmao
Most folks don't realize, I kept doing it so long....not so much outta some quest for ghetto fame....but because I love the people so much...I love to see em have a good time..what has tired me out is the industry itself...
Not ranting and raving just let me shine some light...
1) Everyone wants to be a promoter now. For various reasons I imagine. (women, fame, money). This game is not for the faint of heart. You will loose money. friends and sometimes yourself. Know the risks vs rewards
2) Like Jay said "Believe 1/2 of what you see". 8 promoters in a spot (that holds 200 people) letting people in free til lets say 11p...will never make money...period. This is business not a hustle.
The last 2 times I came back (i.e. CLUB ICE AGE, PENNY DRINKS at MATRIX and recently ON THE BAYOU after saying I am done)....were for selfish reasons. Wanted to prove some ho-ass nuccas in the game that I still could. But at the end of the day...I realized it don't matter what I do....to those same people I won't ever "be sh*t"...LMAO....so why do it anyway...
But even the strongest of us get tired. That's where I am at. The bullsh*t I have to put with is probably more than folks can imagine.
A) The HATE for B.C. is real. I wish it was imagined. Believe me. I am held to higher standard I guess. I can stand alone at a spot (no partners...lol....me working my own door) put 300 people in a building (without a single printed flyer) and have the owner tell me "You don't bring a crowd". I am suppose to be "broke" yet those 97 cent drinks I promote....I pay full price ($8+ per drink) just to make sure my people can afford to party correctly. Name one other promoter that does that....
B) I GET MY TRUCK STOLEN, HOUSE BROKEN INTO, FAMILY THREATENED (because of being 2 successful)....I decide to chill....then I am deemed as "washed up" and "my time has passed".....lol! To this day...I challenge anyone to come and say they seen BIG CHIZZLE outside a club handing out a flyer.....or even my flyer on your car....yet I am done. GTFOWTBS

Okay. Some might say I am bitter. I guess I am. Not at what people have done to me or said about me.
But what the game (aka club business) has turned into.
I know why I am not really like that much by peers. I tell the truth (see above), I don't kiss a*s, and I don't have to promote. (check the resume on Monster pimpin)
I came into the game my way. And I am leaving my way. This time FOR GOOD.
I love every single person who got drunk, partied hard with ya boy. You have given me so much joy and I have learned so much but its time for me to try something different. I will still be around....keepin you updated on the happs....the cooler will still pop off....but my party throwing days...are done....
There is STILL Good quality events 23+...check out LIBRA LOUNGE, Gertners Sports Bar and Sky Bar, THE SPOT, Identity Bar, Belvie, The Office, Cotton Exchange, Monsoon, Shadow Bar.etc...you know the legit promoters and Venues...these new wanna be cats (i.e. I never heard of them entertainment)....it's a crapshoot......try at your risk....ya dig?
Lastly...my ex-protege Deleon is doing his thing with his new website REMIXXHOUSTON.COM...I think that's about to blow..check it out....
